CTN celebrities Khieu Sansana and Doung Sokea are lending their support to EZECOM as the first ChildSafe business in Cambodia by giving the company and Mith Samlanh – the charity that awards the certification – a ‘thumbs up’.
ChildSafe Business 7 certification was developed by the ChildSafe Network, an international child protection program founded and powered by Friends-International.
The certification builds the 7 ChildSafe principles in to a company’s operations through staff training, internal policy review, assessment of CSR portfolios, and advice to ensure company communication plans are considerate to children.
Like It or Not presenter Khieu Sansana and Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader host Sok Kea appeared at EZECOM’s booth at the IT Electronics and Telecom Exhibition (ITET) on November 14th to give the company and the organization Mith Samlanh their seals of approval for the Childsafe initiative.
Wearing a ChildSafe Supporter T-shirt, Sokea said: “As you know I work with children on the program Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader so I think this initiative and this award is hugely important and significant. By helping to promote this I am hoping that other companies follow EZECOM’s lead.”
Khieu Sansana, who is a mother of two, said: “More and more companies should work with Mith Samlanh to run these training programs. We need to do as much as possible to keep our children safe and to make responsible individuals aware of what they can do to keep children safe. I fully support this initiative.”
“Ezecom is proud to partner with Friends-International and become the first ChildSafe Business to meet the 7 principles and be certified in Cambodia,” said EZECOM CEO Paul Blanche-Horgan. “Today, after weeks of ChildSafe training, our staffs are happy to receive the certificates they have worked hard for.”
“We are excited to have established companies like Ezecom joining with us. Their participation will ensure positive benefits in child protection in Cambodia, and we hope will encourage others to follow and ‘Join The Movement’ to protect children,” says James Sutherland, Friends International Communications Coordinator.
“Many companies don’t realize that even if they’re products or services do not seem to have direct links to children, their business still plays a part in the protection and development of the communities children,” Sutherland said.
ChildSafe Business 7 is a consultative program for concerned businesses who want to ensure their business model respects children’s rights and the quality of family, while also protecting themselves from any undesired litigation concerning child abuse.
This is the latest step in Ezecom’s growing relationship with Friends-International.
Mith Samlanh, a Friends-International Cambodia program, is one of many organizations in Cambodia that benefits from free internet provided by Ezecom. The company has also helped wire up schools, universities and other community organizations around the country.
Ezecom was launched in 2007 and has since become one of the country’s leading suppliers of communication services. Ezecom offers fiber optic, WIMAX, VPN and various other internet-based and telecommunications solutions to companies and consumers across Cambodia. Recently Ezecom acquired fiber optic company Telcotech thus expanding its nationwide coverage to 99% of the country.
